"I was a loyal State Farm customer for more than 20 years. During that time, I trusted the company with my homeowners, auto, and life insurance policies, paid my premiums on time through automatic payments, and believed that loyalty and responsible policy ownership would matter.
In over two decades, I filed only two homeowners claims totaling approximately $14,000. During that same period, I paid well over $40,000 in insurance premiums. Despite that history, State Farm chose to cancel my homeowners insurance policy.
What is most disappointing is not just the cancellation—it's how it was handled. I never received a phone call, email, or any meaningful communication informing me that my homeowners policy had been dropped. I was told a letter had been mailed in April, but because my payments were automatic, I had no reason to suspect there was a problem.
The first time I learned I no longer had homeowners insurance was when Wells Fargo contacted me to let me know that my home was uninsured. Imagine finding out from your mortgage company—not your insurance company—that your home has no coverage. I had to scramble to find another insurer to protect my home and satisfy my mortgage requirements.
I understand that State Farm, like many insurers, has faced challenges in recent years and has made difficult business decisions. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to treat customers. After more than 20 years of loyalty, I expected transparency, respect, and direct communication—not silence.
Because of this experience, I made the decision to move all of my business elsewhere, including my auto and life insurance policies. Losing a long-term customer over poor communication and a lack of consideration is unfortunate and entirely avoidable.
Insurance exists to provide peace of mind. Customers faithfully pay premiums year after year with the expectation that when they need their insurer—or when important changes are made—they will be treated fairly and informed appropriately. My experience with State Farm fell far short of that expectation.
I hope State Farm reconsiders how it treats long-standing customers. Loyalty should mean something, and consumers deserve honesty, transparency, and better communication than what I received. And shifting blame between statefarm and the underwriting division is a ploy, you all are one in the same, you work under an umbrella of poor business practices and unethical decision making skills. I hope people sleep well knowing what you are doing is not right."
